Sudeep Chakravarti

Sudeep Chakravarti is a writer of fiction and non-fiction. He is also an independent analyst of socio-political and security issues in South Asia, and a columnist. His novels Tin Fish and The Avenue of Kings (HarperCollins) are critically acclaimed, two novels are work-in-progress. His short stories and excerpts of long-form fiction are included in several collections. Sudeeps non-fiction narratives, Red Sun: Travels in Naxalite Country (Viking/Penguin), on Indias ongoing Maoist rebellion, and Highway 39: Journeys through a Fractured Land (4th Estate, HarperCollins), set in Northeastern India, are critically fêted bestsellers. A third book of non-fiction is due 2014. His essays on conflict are contained in several collections, including Non-State Armed Groups in South Asia (Pentagon Press), and More than Maoism: Politics, Policies and Insurgencies in South Asia (Manohar). A student of history, Sudeep began his career with The Asian Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones & Company. He was later an Executive Editor with India Today Group and Director of the India Today Conclave, which he blueprinted. He has since launched several initiatives for HT Media, and the Indian edition of Rolling Stone. In 2011 he was for a year a convergence specialist and editorial mentor at India Today Group. Sudeeps media writing has been extensively published, including in AWSJ, India Today, Hindustan Times, Mint, Business Today, The Outlook Group of Publications, Business World, OPEN, Die Zeit, Merian, Seminar and Forbes India. Sudeep is a professional member of World Future Society, Washington D.C. He was earlier invited to the Club of Asia by Strategic Intelligence and the Indo-German Young Leaders Forum by BMW-Herbert Quandt Foundation. He is a co--founder of Coastal Impact, a not-for-profit he co-founded in Goa, India, with fellow scuba diving enthusiasts. He lives in Goa.
