Globalization, Europeanization and nationalization are not incompatible integration processes, but they are necessarily interlinked. Europeanization and globalization are certainly unavoidable challenges for nations, which must adapt without losing their way in these new, larger spaces. But on the other hand, Europeanization and globalization must not only respect but also promote the consolidation of national spaces if they do not want to be dissolved into fluid and unstable realities, ready to collapse at the next misfortune.
Europe is a collection of nations that cannot be erased. European citizens are first of all national citizens. Wanting to build a European citizenship that is not based on national and regional citizenships is an impossible and inconsistent dream.
