UCP National Libraries Network

The development of press in the 16th century makes possible to produce books on a larger scale and at more affordable prices. And it is also in the context of the development of the press that some of the great university libraries that still exist today begin to form, although the history of libraries began many centuries before.

Since its foundation, Catholic University of Portugal has maintained this close relationship among teaching and the Library space, where works from around the world are reunited in order to enhance the best human and scientific development.

UCE PRESS has been working closer to the UCP National Libraries Network, bringing the university's scientific production closer to its readers.

Currently, UCP has five libraries organized in a network providing a Collective Catalog that unifies the current collection of documents and provides various services to the academic community.

UCP Libraries

National Bibliographic Database - PORBASE

PORBASE references different bibliographic materials, national and foreign, from all thematic areas and chronological periods. It constitutes the collective online catalog of Portuguese libraries, representing the largest bibliographic database in Portugal.

It is managed by the National Library of Portugal (BNP) and includes public and private libraries.

National Digital Library - BND

BND - Biblioteca Nacional Digital is available in Portuguese and provides online access, universal and free, to digitized contents of manuscripts and printed materials - be it books, journals, iconography, cartography or music - of the collections from National Library of Portugal (BNP), Évora Public Library and, occasionally, Ajuda Library.

Contents made available are mostly works in the public domain, that is, which are no longer subject to copyright and which, therefore, can be freely used for any purpose, without the need for authorization.

National Library of Portugal - BNP

BNP - Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal provides online access to its bibliographic catalog which can be consulted through several levels of details, from ISBN and simple keywords to advanced search that allows combining words from titles, authors, subjects, dates, collections, etc.

Open Data BN Portugal also provides access to all items that can be used without restrictions for any purposes, commercial or otherwise, under the CC0 license.

Europeana

Europeana Collections works with thousands of European archives, libraries and museums to share cultural heritage, constituting an educational, leisure and research source.

It allows access to more than 50 million digitized items - books, music, works of art and more - many of those in the public domain and suitable for research work, providing advanced search tools and filters.

Europeana Professional brings together professionals who work with the European cultural heritage in all fields, building projects, partnerships and events in situ and digital .

Europeana is the European Union's digital cultural platform and aims to strengthen the European cultural heritage sector in its transformation into the digital world, developing knowledge, tools and policies that promote innovation

Google Arts & Culture aims to place all the heritage of humankind within a click. From here, you can access interactive applications and virtual visits to collections from major international museums, historic locations, research institutions, as well as countless works related to such wide-ranging themes as art, biology, cinema, dance, physics, geography, history, computers, literature, fashion, music, chemistry ...
