The book brings together the contributions of the speakers of the first edition of the ColloquIA initiative, promoted by the research group on "Law and Artificial Intelligence" of the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law. Inspired by the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and dedicated to the theme "The politics of fear - or today's world between privacy and security", the first ColloquIA focused on the role of new technologies in the face of existential threats to our survival, not only individually, but of democratic and liberal society itself. With this background, the texts address different dimensions of the tension between privacy and security that the use of new technological solutions in this combat inevitably implies in our way of life and in the way we understand the exercise of our freedom.
