This publication corresponds, with some updates, to the Report on the program, contents and teaching methods of the subject Crimes against the Person, presented (in February 2017) within the scope of the recruitment competition for associate professors. It is intended to be a guide for the study of the master's degree subject Crimes against Persons, addressing key concepts for the understanding of the scope of protection of such criminal offenses and inviting students to reflect on its most controversial aspects, through the preparation of oriented works, for which specific bibliography and case law are indicated. Although it is intended to provide an overview of all crimes against persons, particular focus is given to crimes against life, intrauterine life, physical integrity, freedom, and sexual freedom and self-determination. The most recent legislative changes and the most controversial discussions of the day are also highlighted, with reference to the constitutional values and the instruments of International Law that are binding on the Portuguese juridical order and, in many cases, the drivers of those changes (v.g., the changes in the scope of the crimes of rape, sexual coercion and sexual harassment, the creation of the juridical types of female genital mutilation, persecution and forced marriage, as well as the current discussion on "surrogate motherhood").
